AO Coin Clarification: Not a Replacement for AR ($AR), There Will Be No Migration

Bittime - The presence of the AO token has raised a lot of questions about the fate of the Arweave project . On June 11, JonnyRingo Williams, community manager for the AO project, answered questions regarding the relationship between the $AO token and the existing Arweave network ( $AR ).

No Migration Planned

Williams emphasized that there will be no “migration” of users or functionality from Arweave to AO. The @aoTheComputer project is on the Arweave network and serves as a computing layer, but is not intended to replace Arweave itself.

The analogy used by Williams is a Layer 2 (L2) scaling solution in the blockchain world. Arweave can be considered the base layer (L1), which provides core functionality and network security. 

AO, on the other hand, operates as a separate layer on top of Arweave, designed specifically for scalable computing tasks.

AO Token: Different Uses

Although both networks use tokens, their main goals are different. Arweave ($AR) focuses on facilitating data storage and retrieval, while AO ($AO) is geared towards supporting scalable computing tasks. 

In simpler terms, $AR is used to store data, while $AO is used to process data.

Conclusion

It is hoped that this clarification from the AO community manager will help reduce confusion regarding the relationship between AO and Arweave. While AO offers a solution for scalable computing on top of the Arweave network, it is not intended to replace the core functionality provided by $AR.
