Bittime - MetaMask plans to add Bitcoin (BTC) support! According to a CoinDesk report, MetaMask wants to launch this feature within the next month, although plans could still change.
Support for Bitcoin will likely start with basic features which will then be expanded over time.
This step is certainly welcomed by crypto users. MetaMask has been known as a wallet that focuses on Ethereum and other compatible networks such as Avalanche, Polygon, Optimism, and Arbitrum.

However, the presence of the Snaps feature in September 2023 has shown that MetaMask is starting to spread its wings outside the Ethereum ecosystem . Snaps itself is a type of JavaScript-based application that extends MetaMask's functionality.

MetaMask's popularity is unquestionable. In August 2023, this wallet was recorded as the crypto wallet with the highest number of downloads, reaching 22 million times.

MetaMask's development company, Consensys, is going from strength to strength. They managed to raise $450 million in fresh funds in a Series D funding round led by ParaFi Capital.

This funding round made Consensys' valuation soar to $7 billion in March 2022. Interestingly, at the end of April, Consensys actually sued the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
This is related to the unclear status of the crypto asset Ether (ETH) as a security and the SEC's authority to regulate this asset. This lawsuit was filed after the SEC previously issued a Wells notice, indicating the SEC's intention to take legal action against Consensys.
The price of Bitcoin itself is currently in the range of $69,910 (around Rp. 1.1 billion) as of May 23, 2024 at 18.41 WIB. Based on data from The Block's Data Dashboard, there were 14.48 million transactions recorded on the Bitcoin network in April.
