LayerZero Witch Self-Reporting Phase Completed, Sybil Hunting Ready to Begin!

Bittime - LayerZero Labs announced the completion of the self-reporting phase for witches in their project via social media on May 18, 2024. The announcement details the distribution of token allocations and identification of potential witch addresses.

LayerZero Witch Self Reporting: Token Allocation and Identification 

Eligible addresses will receive an initial 15% of their allocated tokens. The remaining 85% will be distributed to eligible users at a later time. The self-reporting process successfully identified 803,093 potential witch addresses.

Initially, LayerZero flagged more than 2 million addresses as potential witches. However, to reduce false positives, they apply stricter criteria. This results in a more accurate list.

Initial Witch List Released

An initial list containing self-reported addresses and those identified through analysis by LayerZero, Chaos Labs, and Nansen has been released. This list is intended to remove a large number of addresses from bounty eligibility. It is important to note that this list is not final. The calculation method can be updated, and any corresponding adjustments will be made to the witch list.

Improvements to the Bounty Hunting Process

The next two weeks will focus on improving the bounty hunting process. The initial list of potential witches will not be changed during this time and will not affect hunter bounties. LayerZero will announce the final witch list after the bounty hunt ends on May 31.

Sybil Bounty Hunting Begins

In addition to the witch's self-reporting phase, LayerZero also implemented a Sybil reporting program to address the creation of fake accounts, often referred to as "Sybils." These Sybil accounts can manipulate the system and unfairly gain an advantage over legitimate users.

Starting May 18 at 02:00 UTC, anyone can submit reports of suspected Sybil activity. If the report successfully identifies a Sybil that is not yet on the official list, the reported address will not receive a token allocation, and the bounty hunter will get 10% of the allocation that Sybil should receive.

How to Take Part in the Sybil Bounty Hunt 

Here's what bounty hunters need to know:

• Report Valid Sybil Activity: Report only Sybil activity that occurred before Snapshot #1.
• Target Unidentified Sybils: Do not report addresses already registered by LayerZero, Nansen, or Chaos Labs (including self-reported ones).
• Minimum Requirements: The report must include at least 20 Sybil addresses and a clear explanation of how you identified them.
• Disqualification Criteria: Reports with pre-identified addresses, addresses that have no LayerZero transactions, or inadequate reasons/methodologies will be disqualified.

How to Submit a Sybil Bounty Report

Use the Issue Template provided to send a report which can be accessed via the official LayerZero page. The report must include the following information:

• Sybil Addresses: A list of LayerZero addresses suspected of being Sybil that are not yet on the official list.
• Reason: Explain the relationship between the suspected Sybil addresses. How are they related to each other or to Sybil's activities?
• Methodology: Explain how to identify these addresses and provide evidence that they are all controlled by a single individual or entity. The methodology must be verifiable and avoid misidentification of actual users. Include links to any supporting materials, such as a GitHub repo with the script used to reveal the reported address.
• Reward Address: Provide an Ethereum address that will receive the potential bounty reward (cannot be claimed until the Token Generation Event).

By participating in Sybil reporting, it can help ensure a fair and balanced ecosystem for legitimate LayerZero users
