Through defense documents filed on May 14, 2024, the legal team of Ryan Salame, a former FTX executive, asked for a sentence of 18 months in prison.
In his defense, Ryan Salame admitted that while working at FTX and Alameda Research, he had primary responsibility for processing bank deposits and fiat currency exchanges from customers.
Additionally, he also participates in political donations using Alameda funds and leads charity projects in the Bahamas. Salame's legal team argued that his role in the now-closed company was not too central and was more operational.

Ryan Salame's lawyers emphasized several points to reduce Ryan Salame's sentence.
1. Minimal role in fraud
The defense team argued that Salame's involvement in the FTX fraud was minimal. They stated that Salame had no idea that several FTX and Alameda officials had conspired to lie and steal from customers.
2. Cooperation with the Authorities
The defense document also highlights Salame's cooperative attitude with authorities. It is said that Salame was the first to tip off the FTX scam to authorities in the Bahamas.
Apart from that, Salame also voluntarily submitted documents to the United States (US) Prosecutor without requiring an official summons from the court.
3. Negative Financial and Reputational Impact
The document also mentions the financial and reputational losses that Salame experienced as a result of the collapse of FTX. The legal team argued that the media's relentless criticism of FTX and everything associated with Sam Bankman-Fried, Founder of FTX, will give Salame a lifetime of hardship, especially when looking for a new job.

Other Former FTX Executives
The documents also say that other former FTX and Alameda executives, Caroline Ellison and Gary Wang, have previously pleaded guilty to related charges and are seeking reduced sentences from the US side to avoid prison.
