Binance Fined $4.3 Million by Canadian Regulators Due to Negligence in Registration

• Registration Failure: Canadian authorities accused Binance of operating without being registered as a foreign currency services business (MSB). Registration is mandatory for businesses that handle large financial transactions, including crypto asset exchanges.
• Transaction Reporting Failures: Binance also allegedly failed to report nearly 6,000 crypto asset transactions exceeding $10,000 CAD to regulators. These reports are important for identifying and preventing suspicious activity.

This fine adds to Binance's latest regulatory problems. In April 2024, Binance agreed to settle the charges with US regulators by paying a fine of $4.3 billion. Additionally, former CEO Changpeng Zhao was sentenced to four months in prison for failing to implement adequate KYC (Know Your Customer) and AML procedures at Binance.

Binance is also facing challenges in Nigeria, where a top executive has been detained on charges of money laundering and tax evasion. The current CEO of Binance has called for the executive's release, claiming that someone previously demanded a $150 million crypto asset bribe to get the charges out of the way.
