Bittime - Genesis Digital Assets Limited (GDA) has teamed up with Argentinian state-owned energy subsidiary YPF Luz to build a new Bitcoin mining facility that uses wasted gas from oil fields.
Argentina Prepares to Mining Bitcoin
This facility, located in Rincón de Los Sauces in the province of Neuquén, aims to convert waste into a powerful energy source for the highly complex computational processes associated with Bitcoin mining.
The facility has 7 megawatts (MW) in total, with 1 MW of additional backup power, which can accommodate 1,200 Bitcoin mining machines. YPF, YPF Luz, and Equinor, the Norwegian energy giant, are responsible for the Bajo del Toro thermal power plant.

This mining operation uses natural chain gas released during oil extraction. This chain gas is not captured for sale or distribution because transportation from distant or less productive fields is usually uneconomical.
