Solana DePIN Ambient Successfully Raises Funding, Acquires Network, and Prepares to Launch on Solana

Bittime - Ambient, a decentralized physical infrastructure network ( DePIN ) focused on environmental data collection, has secured $2 million in seed funding. Borderless Capital led this funding round, with participation from Solana Ventures, Parami Investors, and others.

Focus on Air Quality

Founded in January 2024, Ambient leverages the Solana blockchain to collect “real-time and localized” environmental data through a network of sensors. 

Their initial focus lies in air quality monitoring, aiming to improve global health and well-being. The platform plans to expand to include noise and light pollution data in the future.

Strategic Acquisition and Migration

In a strategic move, Ambient acquired the PlanetWatch network, an Algorand -based DePIN project that specializes in air quality monitoring. This network, along with its community of sensor providers, will be migrated to the Solana blockchain. 

While PlanetWatch uses the PLANETS token, Ambient will launch its own new token on Solana to power the platform and its future ventures.

Roadmap and Launch Plan

A roadmap detailing the launch of new tokens on Solana, migration incentives, and platform overhaul is expected to be released in the coming weeks. Ambient anticipates launching on the Solana testnet in the summer, followed by the launch of its official token.

Global Sensor Network and User Rewards

According to Ambient, their network has more than 25,000 environmental sensors spread across 20 countries, generating more than 10.7 billion data streams with a 5-minute data feed. The top three countries in terms of censorship deployment are the United States, Germany, and the Netherlands.

Currently, users who contribute data via the PlanetWatch sensor are rewarded with PLANETS tokens. This reward system will switch to the new Solana-based Ambient token when it launches.

Expanding Accessibility and Functionality

Ambient plans to relaunch its sensor showcase alongside their Solana launch. This storefront will offer a wider selection of certified hardware at various price points to serve a variety of use cases. 

Additionally, a mobile app is in the works to facilitate easier data capture and user rewards.
