Bittime - Hong Kong marked a historic day on Tuesday with the launch of six Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) focused on Bitcoin and Ethereum.
Three Bitcoin ETFs Go Green
Three of these ETFs, namely the Bitcoin Spot ETF from China AMC, Harvest, and Bosera, managed to close trading with increases. The Bosera ETF recorded the highest increase among the three, namely 1.8%.

On the other hand, all three Ether ETFs traded in Hong Kong experienced declines at the end of the day. The AMC China Ether ETF recorded the biggest decline, namely 0.77%.
The launch of this ETF offers a new option for investors to invest in Bitcoin and Ethereum in an easier and more transparent way, namely through cash and physical exchange. This feature is predicted to be a key factor driving ETF success.

Crypto ETF Debuts in Hong Kong: Following US Footsteps, But Ethereum's Future Still Gray
The launch of a crypto ETF in Hong Kong marks a new development in the digital asset industry, following in the footsteps of the launch of a similar Bitcoin-based product in the United States in January this year. However, in the US itself, the future of crypto ETFs is still shrouded in uncertainty.
The US market is currently awaiting the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) decision regarding the approval application for nine Ethereum spot ETFs.
Reports circulating say that the application will likely be rejected next month.
Is Ethereum Included in the Category of Securities Subject to SEC Regulation?
This uncertainty arises because the SEC is still debating the status of Ethereum, the native crypto asset of the Ethereum blockchain.
Furthermore, last week, Consensys, an Ethereum development company, took a bold step by filing a lawsuit against the US SEC.
The lawsuit aims to challenge the agency's stance on Ethereum's status and pave the way for approval of an Ethereum spot ETF.

Questioning the Status of Ethereum Securities
Since 2018, regulators have been investigating Ethereum's status as a security, as evidenced in court documents.
“Hong Kong has had a clear definition of Ethereum,” said Wayne Huang, head of ETFs at OSL, in a press conference held on Monday as reported by Forkast.
Ethereum is not a security, but rather the first non-security virtual asset to be supervised in Hong Kong along with Bitcoin.
This makes Ethereum one of two investment instruments accessible to retail investors.
