Moonbirds Turns to Copyright Protection After Yuga Labs Acquisition

Bittime – About two months after being acquired by NFT giant Yuga Labs, Moonbirds announced significant changes.

This NFT collection will strengthen the rights of its holders in commercializing individual Moonbirds. This announcement was made via a post on the X platform.

"Starting today, Moonbirds will join Mythics, becoming a collection with commercial rights," wrote the Moonbird account post.

"If you made something in the CC0 era, that's cool. But from now on, you need to have Moonbird to keep doing it."

In 2022, Moonbirds surprised some of its holders with a sudden change to their copyright model. 

At that time, Moonbirds adopted the Creative Commons CC0 license, which makes works of art public domain and free to commercialize without the owner's consent.

This change comes amid the acquisition of Moonbirds in February by Yuga Labs, the renowned NFT studio that created Bored Ape Yacht Club and owns the copyright to CryptoPunks.
