Bittime - Hong Kong has just entered a new chapter in the crypto investment. Six Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) that have received approval from the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) were officially listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on April 30, 2024. The six ETFs come from Chinese publisher AMC Hong Kong, Bosera International , and Harvest Global Investments.
Crypto Asset Direct Investment Based ETF
In contrast to other crypto investment products, these six ETFs offer a direct investment approach in the crypto assets Bitcoin and Ethereum. This means that 100% of the funds managed by the ETF will be invested directly in Bitcoin or Ethereum, without involving other investment instruments.

Avoidance of Risky Instruments and Leverage
In order to protect investors and maintain transparency, this ETF will expressly not:
- Investing in derivative financial instruments: Derivatives are financial products whose value is derived from another asset, such as Bitcoin or Ethereum. By avoiding derivatives, this ETF minimizes the potential risks associated with price fluctuations of derivative assets.
- Carrying out securities lending activities: In this activity, ETF will lend the crypto assets it owns to other parties. Securities lending can be risky because the ETF loses control of the asset during the term of the loan.
- Carrying out a repurchase agreement (repo) or reverse repurchase agreement (reverse repo): Both of these activities involve selling crypto assets with a promise to buy them back in the future. This ETF avoids such activities to prevent potential default risks.
- Using leverage: Leverage is a strategy of using borrowed funds to increase potential investment profits. However, leverage can also increase potential losses. By avoiding leverage, this ETF offers a more conservative and measured investment approach.
Cash Fund Management
Even though 100% of the funds are invested in Bitcoin or Ethereum, these ETFs can still hold small amounts of cash. These cash funds are allocated to cover ET's operational costs and facilitate the redemption process of ETF shares by investors.
