Fantom Sonic Blast: A Network Ready to Go
The highly anticipated Sonic upgrade is positioned as a “breakthrough upgrade” that will take the Fantom network to new heights. Scheduled for spring, the upgrade promises significant improvements without the need for a disruptive hard fork .
It will introduce new virtual machines, enhanced consensus mechanisms, and improved database storage solutions for users.
While Fantom is already known for its impressive transaction speed and efficiency, Sonic's upgrade aims to push it even further by reaching over 2,000 transactions per second (TPS).
This represents a major leap forward in Fantom's performance, underscoring its commitment to continued progress in transaction processing speed and scalability.
Fantom as a Potential Solution to Solana's Problems?
The recent congestion issues that hit Solana (SOL) inadvertently put Fantom in the spotlight. Fantom's "horizontal scaling" narrative has been gaining traction, with some suggesting SOL users frustrated with bottlenecks might migrate to Fantom.
However, Cronje himself defended Solana, attributing the problems to temporary "technical hurdles" and calling Solana a "victim of its own success."
Fantom Launches USDC.e: Bridging the Gap to Native USDC
Adding to the positive momentum, Fantom also announced USDC.e, a bridging stablecoin designed to offer a seamless path to native USDC, a stablecoin backed by Circle and Wormhole. This initiative, facilitated by the Wormhole bridge, allows users to easily upgrade bridged USDC to native USDC. This also ensures sufficient liquidity for bridging stablecoins in Wormhole.

The announcement further stated that "as USDC.e becomes widely adopted and attracts a significant user base and dApp integration, Circle may consider taking steps to upgrade its token contract to native USDC." These potential future developments could further strengthen USDC's presence in the Fantom ecosystem.
