Bittime - In recent developments in the Ethereum blockchain, a new concept called “BlobScriptions” has emerged, resulting in a significant spike in costs for entering data into Ethereum blobs.

On March 27, a protocol called Ethscriptions introduced BlobScriptions, an innovative method that allows users to enter data directly into “blobs” on the Ethereum network. This occurred as part of Dencun's network upgrade on March 13. Since then, the cost of creating a blob has skyrocketed, reaching 585 gwei in less than five hours after launch, the equivalent of about $18.
These Blob costs are much higher than before, where the average cost was about one wei, which is worth just a fraction of $0.01. Nonetheless, the price has fallen from its peak, sitting at 35.8 gwei at the moment, equivalent to about $1.20.

User Participation and BlobScriptions Prospects
Despite the spike in fees, Ethereum users remain active in utilizing BlobScriptions. More than 4,500 inscriptions have been created since launch, according to Dune Analytics data. Tom Lehman, founder of Ethscriptions, encouraged users to adopt BlobScriptions via the official protocol, warning of surging blobspace fees.
Despite its popularity, it is worth noting that blob data is only stored in Ethereum nodes for about 18 days. After that, the BlobScriptions data will be removed from the network, although it will be retained indefinitely by the Ethscriptions indexer.
