According to Robert Mitchnick, BlackRock's Head of Digital Assets, the launch of BUIDL is in line with their firm's digital asset strategy, which focuses on solving challenges faced by clients.
Operationally, BUIDL is managed by several parties:
- Black Rock Financial Management IC as fund administrator (manager).
- Bank of New York Mellon as the party trusted to safeguard assets (trustee).
- Securitize as a transfer agent and tokenization platform, ensures that the purchase (subscription), resale (redemption) and distribution processes run smoothly.
- PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP as an independent auditor who will audit BUIDL's financial statements.

This BUIDL product is aimed at institutional investors with a minimum initial investment value of $5 million. BUIDL's share offering follows Rule 506(c) and Section 3 (c)(7).
BUIDL Supported by Several Assets
BUIDL is fully backed by cash, US Treasuries, and repurchase agreements (repos). What is unique is that this fund distributes daily results directly to investors' wallets via blockchain in the form of tokens.
BlackRock itself acts as investment manager, while BNY Mellon is appointed to supervise and manage the assets in the fund. In addition, the PWC audit agency is involved to ensure transparency and compliance with regulations.

The process of tokenizing assets and executing transactions in these funds is managed by Securitize, which also acts as a transfer agent. Not to forget, several well-known crypto players such as Anchorage Digital Bank NA, BitGo, Coinbase, and Fireblocks also joined, indicating broad involvement from various parties in the financial industry.
