A mysterious Bitcoin mega whale, which has been in the spotlight of onchain analysts since March 2020, is making waves again by moving 2,000 legacy BTC from 2010 confirmed in a single block on March 1, 2024. These whales have moved a total of 16,000 BTC that have never moved since the first day they were mined. The value of BTC currently reaches Rp 15.5 trillion, according to the current exchange rate.
This Bitcoin mega whale was first detected on March 11, 2020, when it moved 1,000 BTC from 2010. Since then, this whale has appeared 15 times, moving 1,000 BTC each time. This whale last appeared on December 5, 2023, when the price of BTC reached an all-time high above $69,000 (IDR 1.08 billion).
On March 1, 2024, the whale returned to action by moving 2,000 BTC from 2010 through about 40 separate transactions. Each transaction involves a coinbase coin reward of 50 BTC derived from 40 unique Pay-to-Public-Key-Hash (P2PKH) addresses. These addresses were all created in August, September, October, and November 2010, when the price of BTC was still below $1.
These funds were then combined into a single Pay-to-Script-Hash (P2SH) address, and at the time of this report, the BTC address "3BhsG" had an entire pool of 2,000 BTC. The value of BTC is currently around $123.9 million (Rp 1.9 trillion), according to current exchange rates. Confirmed at a block high of 832,648, these 40 transfers reflect previous activity from whales, who have always moved 'vintage' BTC within a block.

Move Bitcoin Cash (BCH)
In addition, this whale also moved 2,000 bitcoin cash (BCH) associated with this BTC, directing it to an address known as "qpq4u". BCH is one of the forks of BTC that occurred in August 2017. The whale also owns the rights to bitcoin SV (BSV) and bitcoin gold (BTG), two other forks of BTC, but has yet to move those coins.
The transfer of 2,000 'vintage' BTC by this Bitcoin mega whale can be viewed visually via theholyroger.com website. The website features a graph showing the amount of 'vintage' BTC remaining on the network. 'Vintage' BTC is BTC that was mined in the early years of Bitcoin, when it was still possible that Bitcoin's creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, or his close associates, were involved in mining.
Currently, there are still around 1.77 million 'vintage' BTC that haven't moved since it was mined, according to the website. This amount is equivalent to about 9.4% of the total BTC supply in circulation, which amounts to 18.8 million BTC. This number also includes about 1 million BTC believed to be owned by Satoshi Nakamoto, who hasn't moved since January 2009.
This transfer of 'vintage' BTC by Bitcoin mega whales marks a significant event in 2024, as the spending of the 'sleeping bitcoins' of 2010 is increasingly scarce. Since 2020, Bitcoin.com News, with the help of blockchain parser btcparser.com, has tracked this whale in 14 separate instances. Since then, the total of 16,000 'vintage' BTC moved by this whale is now worth nearly $991 million (Rp 15.5 trillion).
Bitcoin's Owner Still a Mystery
It is not yet known who the identity of this Bitcoin mega whale is, or what is the motive behind this 'vintage' BTC transfer. Some possibilities are that this whale wants to secure his BTC at a safer address, or wants to sell some or all of his BTC on the market. These whales may also want to attract the public's attention, or just want to have fun by playing puzzles with the crypto community.
Whatever the reason, this Bitcoin mega whale has shown that it has a large amount of 'vintage' BTC that could affect the market if sold. This whale has also indicated that he is still following Bitcoin's development, and may have plans for his BTC in the future. This whale is worth watching out for crypto enthusiasts, especially for those interested in the history and mystery of Bitcoin.
