Check Today's Crypto Market:
Bittime - Genesis, a leading crypto company known for its lending and borrowing services, recently settled two major lawsuits against it. The first lawsuit was filed by the New York Attorney General in October last year, along with crypto exchange platform Gemini.
The New York Attorney General accused Genesis and Gemini of conspiring in two “fraud schemes” related to Gemini Earn products. The lawsuit highlights a significant incident, namely that withdrawals from the platform were suspended in November 2022, resulting in losses of more than $1 billion for investors.
However, Genesis has reached a settlement agreement with the New York Attorney General. Genesis agreed to cease all business activities in New York as part of the deal.
However, this deal still has to be approved by the US bankruptcy court. The legal action against Genesis highlights the regulatory complexity involved in the crypto industry.

The Importance of Complying with Regulations
Although the crypto market has grown rapidly in recent years, regulation is still a point of controversy. Governments and regulatory agencies around the world continue to strive to overcome the challenges of regulating this rapidly evolving and changing industry.
The lawsuit filed by the New York Attorney General against Genesis also highlights the importance of transparency and regulatory compliance in the crypto industry. While many stakeholders in the industry emphasize the value of decentralization and anonymity, cases like this demonstrate that no entity, whether corporate or individual, is exempt from legal obligations.
In addition, Genesis has also agreed to settle the lawsuit filed by the SEC. The US regulator sued Genesis in January 2023 for allegedly combining assets from Gemini Earn with funds from other customers.
Genesis will likely pay $21 million as part of the deal, although that amount could still change depending on payments to creditors. This settlement agreement marks an important step for Genesis in resolving legal disputes that threaten the continuity of their business.

Impact on the Crypto Industry
However, the impact of this deal will likely be felt in the long term for the crypto industry as a whole. This emphasizes the need for compliance with applicable legal regulations and provisions, as well as the importance of transparency and accountability in conducting business in this sector.
Thus, the settlement of this lawsuit is also a warning to other crypto industry players to pay attention to regulatory compliance and maintain transparency in their business operations.
Although the existence of blockchain technology and its decentralized aspects provide extensive freedom, steps are still needed to minimize legal risks and ensure the long-term viability of these crypto companies.
