Aubrey Drake Graham, a Canadian musician better known as Drake, recently experienced significant financial losses. At a UFC event last weekend, Drake bet $700,000 in Bitcoin (BTC) or the equivalent of IDR 10.9 billion, using the Stake betting platform.
Drake is betting on Sean Strickland winning against Dricus du Plessis, where he expects to make a profit of around $650,000 in BTC. However, the jury's final decision in favor of du Plessis cost Drage a loss.
The Truth of the 'Drake Curse'
This isn't the first time Drake has lost in sports betting. Previously, he had bet $500,000 in BTC on Israel Adesanya to beat Strickland, but Strickland came out on top.
This phenomenon is often referred to as the 'Drake curse', where athletes or teams they support often lose in various sports.
In 2022, Drake placed a bet of $234,000 in Bitcoin on Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc at the Spanish Grand Prix. However, Max Verstappen was the winner.
Next, he bet $600,000 in cryptocurrency on Arsenal to win over Leeds United and FC Barcelona to beat Real Madrid in El Clasico.
However, Real Madrid won. In 2023, Drake suffered another $400,000 loss in BTC when Jake Paul lost to Tommy Fury, the younger half-brother of world champion Tyson Fury.
