Bittime – German telecommunications giant, Deutsche Telekom, announced plans to enter the world of Bitcoin mining.
This was stated by Dirk Roder, Head of Infrastructure and Web3 Solutions at Deutsche Telekom, at the BTC Prague Conference held on June 17, 2024. "Of course, we will mine Bitcoin," said Roder.
Deutsche Telekom Expansion
Although Deutsche Telekom has not revealed further details regarding its mining plans, this move signals the company's significant expansion into the cryptocurrency space.
Previously, Deutsche Telekom has been actively involved in various blockchain projects, including running validators on the Polygon, Q, Flow, Celo, Chainlink, and Ethereum networks.
Furthermore, the company is also launching Energy Web Chain in 2023, which is predicted to be the world's first public blockchain designed specifically for the energy sector.
This platform aims to create a more decentralized, digital, and environmentally friendly energy system.

Increased Bitcoin Mining Competition
Deutsche Telekom has also been running a Bitcoin node and a Lightning node since 2023.
Deutsche Telekom's decision to mine Bitcoin was welcomed positively by the Bitcoin mining community, considering T-Mobile's market capitalization of more than $200 billion.
However, the move also raises questions about the potential for increased competition for existing Bitcoin miners.
Deutsche Telekom's entry into the Bitcoin mining industry is an important step in the development of blockchain and cryptocurrency technology. This shows that more and more large companies are starting to see the potential and value of this technology.
While there are still several unanswered questions regarding Deutsche Telekom's mining plans, this move will undoubtedly have a significant impact on the future of the Bitcoin and cryptocurrency industry as a whole.
Deutsche Telekom Aims for Energy Efficiency in Bitcoin Mining
Apart from plans to enter the world of Bitcoin mining, Deutsche Telekom is also rumored to be running a pilot program to increase energy efficiency in the mining process.
This program aims to adjust the energy use of mining equipment (mining rig) with the available energy supply in real time. This means that if there is a general energy shortage, the mining rig will automatically reduce power usage or even stop operating temporarily.

With this approach, Deutsche Telekom hopes to minimize the environmental impact of Bitcoin mining, which has often been in the spotlight.
This step by Deutsche Telekom is considered a potential innovation. If the pilot program is successful, it could be a breakthrough for the Bitcoin mining industry as a whole.
This could encourage other miners to adopt more environmentally friendly technologies and practices.
Of course, we will need to wait for further developments to see how this pilot program will play out and the extent of its impact on the Bitcoin mining industry.
However, Deutsche Telekom's initiative should be appreciated and is hoped to be a driving force for creating more sustainable Bitcoin mining practices.
